Greetings HGI Community!

February promises to be a busy month at the school. In addition to registration for next year, the school will host two “Artists in the School”. There will be a “Scraphic Novel” activity for grade 6’s and a jewelry making workshop for grade 8’s. Selected grade 9 students will spend part of one day working with clay with the seniors at Riverwood square. The grade 9 Leadership students will be hosting a “Sock Hop” activity for the grade 5 and 6 students.

We will be offering the Intensive French for one grade 6 classroom next year. The family information evening for that program will be on March 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the school.

On March 21st, beginning at 7:00 p.m., there will be a beginning grade 6 Band, conducted by David Pelletier and grade 9 Choral concert. The grade 5 students, joined by the grade 9 drama students, will be hosting a play presentation that evening under the direction of Eleanor Maine and Deb Yacheson. Audience participation is always welcome.

It is currently Basketball season. Check the HGI website calendar for the times of games and come out to cheer on the Wolves!

Our grade 9 students are preparing for either an Art Trip or a Band Trip to be held between April 14 and 18 and will include travel to the west. Teachers are organizing a Band performance and visits to venues to provide enrichment Art activities.

Our annual school grade 5 – 8 program information and school tour evening will be held on May 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the HGI gym. School supply lists for next year will be posted on our website in the spring along with registration information.

Our school has registered for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and many of our grade 9’s are participating. Check out the website:

To assist in the offering and tracking of award activities, HGI will be organizing a camping trip from May 22 to 24, 2018.

Our spring concert series will be held at HGI on May 16 and 17. The grade 6 and 7 Concert Band and the Junior Jazz Band will play the first night and the Grade 8 and 9 Concert Bands, Senior Jazz and the Choral group will perform the second evening. Please join us for an evening of music.

Our school track meet will be held at HGI on May 18. This is a good day to come out with your lawn chairs and watch/cheer some of the track and field events. The Divisional events will be held the next week (May 29 for grades 5 and 6; May 31 for grades 7 to 9) at the University of Manitoba track.

Our grade 9’s will write their exams during the week of June 18. This year, out Grade 9 Farewell will be held on June 28 at the Celebrations Theatre. The student planning committee, under the direction of Mrs. Maine, has done an excellent job in preparing for this special event. Students in grade 8 are on the committee and they are learning what is involved for their own special evening a year from now. The chef at Celebrations hosted a taste testing event to help the students pick the supper menu.

We feel fortunate to be involved is such a welcoming and helpful community. Thant you for your support. Please know you are always welcome to attend the school events and assemblies. To keep up to date, please check our website regularly:
