Adults classes

WRCC Yoga Classes – 2017 Winter Session with Bev Campbell, Yoga Certified

Start today with a gentle form of yoga that focuses on proper body alignment with the use of props.   Poses are taught in a progressive way ensuring safety and continuity.  You will body awareness, mental and physical focus, flexibility and strength.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga an energetic class, linking breath with movement as you flow through a set sequence of poses. This class will improve your strength and flexibility, and release your stress. Great for all levels.

Early Morning Bootcamp

Classes are circuit-based and will include some cardio, some strength conditioning and some High Intensity Interval Training. Please do not be put off by the term High Intensity….we can adjust exercises to suit your level of fitness. Challenge your muscles in different ways, improve muscular strength, cardio capacity and get an AWESOME start to your day!

Tuesday Night Bootcamp

This group fitness class is for men and women that are looking for a great workout, a fast way to get in shape and have fun doing it! A challenging class where you are in charge of how hard you want to push yourself, and modifications are always available. The class uses a combination of hand weights, circuit training and body weight exercises to sculpt your body and increase fitness levels. Runners, a water bottle and a yoga mat are required.

Family Classes

Family Zumba

Sunday morning Zumba® is a family friendly class to help encourage families achieve fitness goals together. This is an entry level class for those who might be new to fitness or unfamiliar with cardio dance programs. We will mix effective body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow, fun, dance steps. People seem to forget about working out during a Zumba® session, allowing them to exercise longer, and burn even more calories. Using upbeat Latin music together with cardiovascular exercise, Zumba® is aerobic dancing that is lots of fun and easy to learn for people of all ages.

Musical Theatre Mania (ages 7-16)

musical-mania-1Love to sing? Act? Dance? How about all 3?
Musical Theatre Mania is a new class being offered by the Whyte Ridge Community Centre this winter that will challenge students by combining all 3 of these art forms into one. Students will have the opportunity to hone their skills while developing self-confidence and stage presence. Classes consist of acting games, singing, scene work and dancing/movement. At the end of the 15-week program, students will perform a showcase of Broadway musical songs and scenes for family and friends. No prior experience necessary, only a love for musical theatre and a willingness to try something new!

Recreational Cheerleading for Kids (ages 5+)

Cheerleading focuses on strength, balance and flexibility, all of which skills will be coached and advanced though this program. This recreational Cheerleading team will be mainly learning how to stunt. Cheerleading dance and jumps will come after but minimum tumbling will be taught. Stunts, in this age group, range from basic two-legged stunts to two-legged extended stunts and tosses. There are numerous variations of each stunt. At the end of this program participants will take part in a fun team performance that involves everything they had learned. Maximum of 20 students.

Jackrabbits Hockey

jackrabbit-hockeyThe Jackrabbits program uses a variety of drills, relay games, activities and scrimmage hockey games to introduce children to skating and hockey. Jackrabbits is a family-oriented program, geared to those looking for a low-key introduction to the game. For children ages 5 – 9 years. Please note that basic skating skills are required. This is not a Learn-to- skate program.

December, 2016 (start date TBA and will depend on ice quality) to first week of March, 2017 (depending on ice quality)
At Whyte Ridge Community Centre outdoor rinks
Saturdays, 11 am – 12:00 pm
Cost: $50/child or $40/child for 2 or more children. If a session cannot take place because of weather conditions (too cold, ice slushy, etc.) no refunds will be given.

Required Hockey equipment: Mandatory helmet and full cage face mask, skates and hockey stick. Strongly recommended: Shoulder pads, elbow pads, shin and neck guards
