Recently, you may have noticed something new in front of the Whyte Ridge Community Centre at 170 Fleetwood Road. It is our new digital sign; replacing the old sign that has become such a familiar sight since 2007.
While it was great to have the old sign, it was difficult to change (especially in poor weather) and very limited in the message it could display. The new sign has an updated look with our new web page address and a full color LED display measuring 2 feet by 8 feet! The new sign will open a world of possibilities for communicating community events and news as well as advertising to help raise much needed funds for the community centre.
The new sign was entirely funded by the City of Winnipeg’s Land Dedication Grant. A big thank you to Councillor Marty Morantz for his assistance in procuring the funding. This sign is just the beginning of a whole host of big changes we hope to see at our community centre over the coming years including the construction of a gymnasium and expanded community centre, outdoor exercise equipment and further additions to the beautiful natural prairie, interpretive trail and butterfly garden which have already added so much to our facility. If you like the sound of these proposed changes, please get involved and volunteer your time to help make these plans a reality! For more information about volunteering, please visit our web site at http://whyteridge.ca/wp-cc/members/volunteers/.
May 6, 2017 marked a RECORD attendance at the Run at The Ridge 2km and 5km race. 1403 runners, wearing the color neon yellow, enjoyed the beautiful sun and warm weather. Adding to the hundreds of Whyte Ridge Community runners, we were excited to see over 80 runners from Carman, Manitoba, 200 runners from Robert H. Smith School in Winnipeg and many new Whyte Ridge Elementary Families from Bridgwater.
Moe Leggett from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club was our celebrity guest. He officially started the 2km race at 8:30am and the 5k race at 9:15 a.m. Tyler Carr from Energy 106 was also on hand to get the crowd going with his “Selfie Square” and some great music. Buzz, Boomer, Green Drop and Lionel from Boston Pizza were on hand to bring hugs and smiles to the kids and adults at the start and finish line. Continue reading “Run at the Ridge 2017” »
The calendar pages are turning quickly and spring has arrived. The HGI team is motivated and working together to prepare our school float for the Pembina Trails Canada 150 event. With our school pillars (Humanity, Growth, Innovation, and Sustainability) in mind, we are creating a float with a dual purpose. Materials on the float will be used or repurposed into the garden project back at the school.
The entire Pembina Trails School Division will be gathering at Investors Group Field on May 24, each school with their celebratory float, along with a mass band for the playing of O Canada, a dance group, a video and many other special activities. Community participants are very welcome to join us. Happy birthday, Canada! https://ewww.pembinatrails.ca/AboutUs/SpecialEvents/Pages/Our-Pembina-Trails-Canada-150-Project.aspx Continue reading “Henry G. Izatt School News” »
