Something is new with our printed newsletter. You may have noticed that the title has changed from “The Spirit” to “The Ridge”. The idea behind the original newsletter title was conceived some 15 years ago and it has been a fixture in our community ever since. The name “The Spirit” was meant to reflect the community spirit in Whyte Ridge, but Whyte Ridge has changed a lot since then and we felt that it was time for a change too. The new title, “The Ridge” and new look to the newsletter cover is meant to reference and be inclusive of both Whyte Ridge and Linden Ridge and to reflect a stronger sense of community.
Other changes are taking place as well, such as our new board position, Director of Diversity. We welcome our new director Shahin Shooshtari to the role, with a focus on recognizing, serving and celebrating the diverse cultures in our community. On Feb 24 we held a dinner at the community centre to celebrate this increasing diversity and invite participation in community activities. Look for other events from Shahin in the future with a focus on diversity and community. Also, look for the new Whyte Ridge Fitness park coming this spring beside the basketball court. This wheelchair accessible facility is another way we are reaching out to all members of our community and providing great recreational opportunities for all.
If you want to be a part of the positive changes in our community, then we need you! For more information about volunteer opportunities and what is coming at WRCC, please contact our president Curtis Rossow at president@whyteridge.ca.
