President’s message

Hello Linden Ridge and Whyte Ridge,

Summer seemed to go by too fast! I’m excited to say that next summer, everyone will be able to refresh at the spraypad as construction is currently underway. We can’t wait for the final product.

Our centre hosted 4 weeks of our very own summer camps and plenty of fun was had by campers and camp staff! Camp staff were hired through successful grant applications. We are looking forward to growing this program for next year and are using the feedback that we have received from families to improve our program. RDT Soccer, Mad Science and MyGym also offered summer camp programming at our centre and we look forward to continuing these partnerships.

The WRCC Board continues to focus on revitalizing our community centre and we have a number of projects on the go. The exterior of our centre will be patched and painted very soon, the player boxes are set to be rebuilt with appropriate grading underneath to prevent water in the crawlspace, and the bathrooms are being renovated. Other work to interior space will take place over the next year.

PAL 55+ is returning to our centre beginning in September.  PAL 55+ will be offering programs for those aged 55+ out of the WRCC on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Please check their website at www.pal55plus.ca for further information.

Registration for fall sports is currently taking place so check www.whyteridge.ca for specific sport registration information. This includes hockey, soccer, basketball, etc. Don’t forget to check out the fall programs being offered at the WRCC which include Adult Bootcamp, Zumba for Kids, Teen Bootcamp, Teen Yoga, Art sessions for kids and adults, Ashtanga Yoga, Shotokan Karate, Hatha Flow Yoga, Pilates and Baton Twirling with more classes being added all the time.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Micaela Mayhew, Fabio Capone, Mike Duong and MLA Obby Khan for planning the Summer Carnival. We would like to also thank the many sponsors who made this event possible.

WRCC Board meetings will begin in September.  These meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Monday of every month beginning at 7pm and we invite all community members to attend with ideas for our centre or concerns.

The WRCC Board will soon be looking for the community’s feedback on some ideas to improve our centre.  Keep watch on our Facebook or Instagram pages.
