The WRCC team wanted to take a moment to remind you about the upcoming Whyte Ridge Garage Sale on Sat, May 13th. Additionally, Giveaway Weekend that usually occurs the 2nd weekend of May- May 13th and 14th will coincide with Garage Sale, so we are sure the neighbourhood will be buzzing over this Mother’s Day Weekend.
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to sell or give away items that you no longer need and for others in the community to find treasures that they can use!
As you prepare for the Garage Sale & Giveaway Weekend, it is important to remember what items are safe to sell or give away. If selling, be sure to have a float and clearly mark your items that are for sale. Some items that are great to give away or sell include clothing, toys, books, and furniture that are in good condition. However, there are some items that are not safe to give away, such as mattresses, items that have been recalled, or anything that is broken, is in disrepair or would generally be unsafe.
To ensure that the Giveaway Weekend is a success, it is important to follow the rules set out by the City of Winnipeg. These rules include placing items on your own property and not on the street or sidewalk, labeling items clearly as “free” so that people do not mistake them for garbage or take an item you don’t want to give away (eg. your lawn mower, your kids scooter, etc). The City also requires you to remove any unclaimed items by dusk at the end of the weekend. By following these rules, we can ensure that everyone in our community stays safe and that this Winnipeg tradition continues to run smoothly.
We encourage you to participate in the Garage Sale/Giveaway Weekend if you can, as it is an opportunity to give your things a ‘second life’, rather than discarding items that ending up in the landfill. There are many in need in our community and your unwanted or unused items can certainly be a life line and opportunity for others! This can include donating items to local charities, repairing items that are broken, or finding creative ways to repurpose items that you no longer need. By taking these steps, we can all work together to reduce unnecessary waste and protect the environment.
Please remember to be safe and take it slow in our community to help keep everyone safe especially during the Garage Sale/Giveaway weekend.
Thank you for your cooperation, and for your commitment to creating a sustainable, vibrant and friendly community.
