The President’s Message

Hello Whyte Ridge and Linden Ridge,
Warm weather is on its way! Once the weather cooled off in December the Community Centre
was a busy place this winter with two outdoor ice rinks open, and a well maintained sled chute.
Not only was the centre busy but Board members were working hard behind the scenes as well.
We had our first ever Board game night with Across the Board coming to our Centre, a Winter
Carnival, and a Quiz Night! Additionally, we have received a Manitoba Forest Enhancement
grant that will allow us to plant 7 trees on the north side of the property, and we are so very
grateful and excited. We are waiting to hear the results of our other grant applications for
additional trees, a complete ice rink rebuild of our west rink, a summer event, summer staffing
and some other exciting additions. We will keep you posted!
We had a great turnout for our Winter Carnival despite the cold temperatures, and we held our
second annual Quiz Night. Check out the trophy at the centre! Thank you to our sponsors and
volunteers who made these events possible.
Our AGM is taking place on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 7pm. It’s a hybrid meeting so you can join
in virtually from anywhere or come on down to the centre. We would really appreciate
community members joining us, as in order to have this meeting, we require a certain number of
community members to be present. You will be able to hear about what has taken place at the
Centre over the past year, and if you are interested, join our volunteer team as a Board
Member. We have several positions available and we offer training, guidance, and you can even
switch roles! But even if you are not interested in taking on a volunteer role, please come down
for the AGM just to listen.
As you may already know, the Whyte Ridge Community Centre is run by a Board of Directors
that is made up of volunteers. The Community Centre needs you, community members that
care about what happens at the centre and what services we provide. We have several Board
positions that require volunteers. We are seeking a Vice-President, Diversity Director,
Fundraising Director, House and Grounds Director, Canteen Director, Programming Director,
and Site Development Director. All Board members are required to attend monthly Board
meetings- they take place the second Monday of each month except for the summer. Certain
roles have other responsibilities but we only expect that volunteers do what they can. We
understand that volunteers have other obligations- family, jobs, school, etc.
Our spring sports are gearing up so look out for registration dates for basketball, soccer and
badminton. These programs will be looking for coaches, youth and mini-soccer conveners, and
equipment managers. Email soccer@whyteridge.ca or basketball@whyteridge.ca for more
information. Looking ahead to summer, the Whyte Ridge Community Centre is excited to be
offering a variety of summer camps.
WRCC Board meetings are scheduled for the 2 nd Monday of every month beginning at 7pm and
we invite all community members to attend with ideas for our centre or concerns.
