Whyte Ridge community offers a variety of volunteer positions
Volunteer Opportunities for the Sports fan.
Hockey Net Maintenance – Replace and maintain 4 hockey nets – 2 hours/season. Contact the President for more details.
Rink repairs – Replace damaged rink boards and floor boards in boxes (10-20 hours per season). Repair fencing fasteners (2-4 hours per season). Inspect and adjust gate hardware as required (2 hours per season – before rinks are installed each Fall). Paint rinks – about 40 hours/rink, with one rink per season (a great group teambuilding activity!). Contact the President for more details.
Ice making & cleaning – Install rinks at start of season. Assist in rink maintenance (snow removal or flooding) 7 days per week. Perform snow removal from south parking lot (as needed). Experience/training related to operating tractor required for snow removal. Looking to build a dedicated team of interested volunteers to undertake these duties for the 2016-2017 winter season. Soccer Field Maintenance – Install four soccer nets in Spring, re-fasten as required during season, remove nets in early Fall – 4 hours/season. Contact the President for more details.
Basketball Court Maintenance – Inspect and clean basketball court surface – 1 hour/week. Maintain basketball court nets and pole pads – 2 hours/season. Contact the President for more details.
Hockey Liaison – Attend Fort Garry North Hockey Association meetings once a month to represent the interests of the Whyte Ridge Community Centre Board of Directors. Ideal for a group of parents with children already enrolled in hockey program. Contact the President for more details.

Website Advertising – looking for a volunteer to find new sponsors for Whyte Ridge Community Centre’s website. Contact the Communications director for more details.
Daily Building Inspection – Perform daily walk-through of building and exterior amenities to confirm that building is secure, identify vandalism or damage, and to verify that mechanical systems are operating and that there is no indications of running water in building. Identify if lights are burned out. Time requirement – 15 minutes per day. Contact the General Manager for more details.
Daily grounds clean-up (required whenever grounds are free of snow) – Walk through entire grounds and parking lots, picking up debris and placing in disposal bin in south parking lot. Notifying General Manager if disposal bin has large items placed outside of it that need to be removed. Time requirement – 30 minutes per day. Multiple volunteers could be scheduled to perform tasks on specific days of the week. Contact the General Manager for more details.
Garden maintenance – Tend to and remove weeds from front entrance and building flower beds once per week (one hour/week). Assist with butterfly garden weeding and maintenance. Contact the General Manager for more details.

Minor building repairs & maintenance – Perform regular minor repairs to building that do not require a skilled trade, such as: drywall patching and paint touch-ups, light bulb replacement, organizing storage areas, building custom storage systems. Contact the General Manager for more details.

Minor plumbing maintenance – Repair leaking or damaged faucets and perform other minor plumbing repairs that do not require a plumber. Check hot water system and lubricate circulation pump. Drain and clean hot water tanks on an annual basis. Contact the General Manager for more details.
HVAC maintenance – Perform monthly inspection and maintenance on furnaces, heaters and air conditioning per checklist and replace filters every second month. An ideal candidate would be someone who is employed in this field. 1 hour/month. Contact the General Manager for more details.
