As the days grow longer and we catch the first glimpses of spring, many of us are already planning summer vacations and family activities. Here at the Whyte Ridge Community Centre, we are entering our busiest season of the year. While we wrap up our winter programming, our dedicated staff and volunteers are already hard at work preparing a full slate of spring activities and summer camps.
Celebrating Our Success
It takes a village to run a community centre. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our former Special Events Director, Miranda Johnson, and our General Manager, Tenille Wilson. Together, they planned and executed an astonishing Winter Carnival. Boosted by the unseasonably warm weather, the event was a massive success, drawing in approximately 500 visitors. To every volunteer and staff member who stepped up to help: thank you. Your dedication and time made these memories possible for our neighborhood.
I would also like to share a special note of appreciation for Ellen Thompson. Ellen stepped in during a critical time of need, simultaneously filling two executive roles as Secretary and Vice-President. Beyond her excellent organizational skills, she provided me with invaluable guidance and mentorship as I began my journey as Board Chair. Ellen, you will be truly missed, and we wish you the very best in your next chapter.
Shaping Our Future Together
The recreational landscape is changing. Community centres today face the challenge of staying competitive alongside commercial organizations. To ensure Whyte Ridge remains a destination of choice for our families, we have increased our collaboration with various levels of government and neighboring community centres. However, we cannot do this in a vacuum – we need your input and your energy.
