Job Description – Summer Camp Director
About us
The Whyte Ridge Community Centre is a non-profit community centre located in Southwest Winnipeg. We provide recreation services to our community members.
We are looking for a Camp Director to lead our team of staff and campers at our summer day camp. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, experience with managing groups of children, and a background in outdoor sports and activities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading summer camp activities, overseeing staff, and maintaining the overall well-being of all campers. Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, the Camp Director is responsible for the supervision of children in the camp and for designing and planning the summer camp program while maintain an energetic and engaged attitude. The Camp Director will provide all program participants with a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Assisting with the recruitment, hiring and training of staff and volunteers.
- Developing and implementing a daily camp schedule that small group time, games, crafts and other activities.
- Organizing a schedule for all staff and volunteers.
- Plan weekly and daily activities including booking field trips, buses, etc.
- Organizing and managing camp activities and staff in accordance with the current budget and camp polices.
- Work cooperatively with Camp Counsellors to ensure participants are safe while maintaining adequate health and hygiene measures.
- Instructing daily events and activities for campers.
- Provide campers with unique, fun and stimulation leisure activities.
- Provide campers and staff with a safe camp environment.
- Assist with the daily curriculum including all preparation and clean-up. Check participants in and out of camp safely and accurately.
- Supervision and safety of participants in daily activities and field trips.
- Supervising camp staff and volunteers and proving feedback and encouragement throughout the summer.
- Building relationships with all participants by showing compassion, empathy and understanding.
- Fill in all required documents daily, including, incident and accident forms. Ensure all forms are submitted promptly to the Assistant General Manager (when such forms are applicable).
- Daily parent communication and interaction.
- Ensuring all staff and campers are aware of emergency procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by Assistant General Manager.
- Monitor facility and maintenance standards, completing maintenance and light cleaning duties as required and assigned.
Other requirements:
- Patience, confidence, and strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must be between 18 years and 29 years of age (position funded by the Government of Cananda and Province of Manitoba).
- Previous experience as a Camp Counsellor is an asset.
Conditions of Employment
- Flexible start date in June and ending in August (flexible schedule) but must commit to work June 16, 2025 – August 22, 2025, Monday – Friday full days.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be available for a variety of regularly scheduled assignment with the ability to adapt to changes in scheduling on short notice.
- Must be physically able to complete the job duties, including lifting/moving up to 40 pounds, ability to stand, walk, bend and crouch, and ability to work in and out of doors during a variety of weather conditions.
- A background check including a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector, satisfactory to the employer, will be require of the successful applicant at the employer’s expense prior to commencing employment.
- First Aid/CPR certifications are an asset.
