We wanted to take a moment to thank one of our long-standing Board members. Her commitment and passion have truly made a difference in the lives of so many.
Kim started volunteering with the Board of Directors in 2011 as the Communications Director and gradually moved through different positions. She learned about the centre as she went. Kim has been instrumental in many of the upgrades and renovations over the last couple of years. In her role as President, she oversaw the renovation of the centre, rebuilding of the west rink and the repaving of the east rink. She also continued the request for the splash pad installation, which, as you know, has been a positive addition to the centre. Additionally, she helped secure funds for the wheelchair ramp, and planned both the Quiz Night and the Winter Carnival since 2017, and so much more.
While researching Kim and speaking with other Board members, it was met with resounding approval that all Board members said, “She works in the background, never taking credit. She is level-headed, diplomatic, and resourceful.”
“This is very typical of her—to do a lot of work but stay in the shadows and not take credit for it.” – Board Member
Kim not only led the Board but also volunteered and lent a hand whenever others needed it. For example, she assisted with player box repairs (rubber mat installations). I also feel she is personally attached to the centre and the things she has done. No wonder she continues to play a very important role, even as Past President.
Kim received the Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee Award in 2022, nominated by MLA Obby Khan. This was in recognition of all her hard work at the community centre. It is wonderful to see her acknowledged for everything she has accomplished.
Kim’s goal was to energize the community centre and reconnect with the community. While Kim is not leaving the Board anytime soon, we wanted to take this opportunity to publicly thank Kim and her family for all the work she has done at the community centre.
